Everything about this shoot with LaShunta and Levi felt like it was meant to be, that we were supposed to be in the Great Sand Dunes right then, right where we were. It started when we drove up the dunes to scout the perfect spot and discovered that every spot was perfect.
Even the wind worked in our favor! It would pick up LaShunta’s skirt (which is actually lavender – I loved the way in it changed as it danced in the light and the wind) and playfully, perfectly tousle it, or sweep her hair back just so, giving the whole shoot this deeply romantic aura. Which was exactly their vibe, and exactly what I wanted to capture.
LaShunta and Levi had been married for three years and recently moved back to Colorado. As an anniversary shoot, I wanted to celebrate the depth of their love. During our time together, they were in their own little world – it helped that the wind was so loud they couldn’t hear me give them directions anyway – I was just there to help capture their story.
